KEIGHLEY LIONS CLUB

PRESIDENTS CHANGEOVER LUNCH 1st JULY 2000

The Presidents Changeover evening was held at the Chaplins Bistro in Haworth, and was attended by over 50 members, partners and guests.

Lion Avril Emmerson organised the evening, and following a very good meal with excellent service by the staff and management of Chaplins, the handing over of the chain of office took place.

Now you will know that Lion Avril has been a teacher for many years, and whilst pretending to be retired still manages to work most weeks doing what comes naturally, and if the photo below could speak, I am sure you would hear, "Just wait till I get that blue chain on, it'll be detention for you m'lad."

Anyway back to business, outgoing Club President Lion Edward Walters had a few words to say before handing the chain over, thanking the club for their support and wishing Lion Avril well for her year of office, he also thanked his wife Lion Julie and son Martin for their support.

Again we hear that old saying, " tha's nowt s'past as a past president"!!!!!

Anyway just in case you thought no-one else was there, here are a couple of photos, on the left Lion Andy Longden with wife Joanne, Andy joined Lions approx' 18 months ago and is a sergeant in the Keighley Police Force. On the right two 'prospective' members Peter and Jodie Saxby, Peter is currently serving in the Royal Air Force, and is hoping to transfer into Yorkshire for his final 5 years service, Jodies' Grandfather was one of the Charter members of Keighley club along with Keith Trott in 1955.

GOOD LUCK PRESIDENT LION AVRIL!!!!

And finally, this very enjoyable evening was marred only by the enormous loss to the members, club and district of our treasurer Lion Selwyn Dewhurst, who died suddenly on Tuesday 20th June. Lion Delsia put on a brave face and supported Lion Avril at the changeover. A tribute page will shortly be posted on this site, and will attempt to celebrate the Lionistic life of a big,big man, who touched so many along the way.
In the words of Lion George Bradley,
"God must have been desperate for a bloody good treasurer".
