KEIGHLEY LIONS CLUB
45th Charter Anniversary
Dinner
25th March 2000
Three Sisters, Haworth
The 45th charter anniversary dinner was again held at the Three Sisters Hotel in Haworth, where over 100 members, partners and guests spent a pleasant evening.
The meal was as always excellent and service to match. Lion Josie Clark said grace, Lion Michael Walton acted as Toastmaster for the evening and speeches were started by Lion First Vice President Avril Emmerson, who gave an original speech, honoring Lions Clubs International, in the form of a story being told to a class of school children, about Peter the Lion (pun on DG Peter entirely intentional).
The response by District Governor Lion Peter Jesse followed, then Lion President Edward gave his speech on behalf of Partners and Guests, where he acknowledged the work carried out by the club over the past year.
The final speech was given by Top Table guest and area fundraising manager for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Diana Hawley, Guide Dogs has been Lion Edward and his good lady Lion Julie's project for a good number of years now and they put a lot of time and effort into raising funds. Keighley Lions is the official area Guide Dog Fundraising Branch.
The evening was also a celebration of Lion Julie's birthday and a cake and flowers were presented to her after the speeches.
Music as for the past few years was provided by the 'Airwaves' Disco operated by George, a fellow Keighley and District Travel colleague to Lions Edward, Michael Walton and Simon Kinsey who all work there, ably assisted by his good lady wife.
